Ex-soldier from Lancaster explains why he's joining up to fight for Ukraine

An ex-soldier from Lancaster has talked about why he is signing up to fight for Ukraine.

Kenneth Lamb will fly out on Friday to join up to help the Ukrainian Forces fight the Russian invasion.

Mr Lamb, 50, spent three years in the British Army as a teenager, signing up straight from leaving school.

More than 30 years after leaving the Forces, the ex-Morecambe Bay, Morecambe High and Heysham High School pupil will be enlisting for Ukraine's international legion.

He said he was inspired by heartbreaking television pictures of children suffering in Ukraine.

Listen to Kenneth Lamb talking about why he wants to fight for Ukraine:

"I just can't sit here and do nothing," he said.

"Watching these children (on TV), is terrible. It's just so upsetting. I think I can do something better, more than the government's doing, put it that way.

"Am I scared of going? Yeah. Am I scared of dying? Yes. But am I willing to offer my life? Yes.

"I'm scared, but not worried.

"It's just more upsetting to sit and watch it. I have to do something."
