Former Morecambe FC manager Stephen Robinson has spoken about the reasons for his shock decision to leave the Shrimps for St Mirren.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Stephen Robinson said he left Morecambe with a "heavy heart" to join the Scottish Premier Division side.
The news that Robinson had been given permission to speak to St Mirren broke yesterday, completely out of the blue, shocking Shrimps fans. His departure, and that of his assistant Diarmuid O'Carroll, was confirmed on Tuesday morning.
"I took training at Morecambe yesterday, came back to a load of text messages, things move very very quickly," said Robinson.
"Tough, tough decision to make. We started a project down in Morecambe, but football changes very very quickly. I didn't make the decision lightly.
"I think St Mirren are a very progressive football club, I've always admired them from afar, when I was managing Motherwell.
"I didn't have a lot of time to deliberate. Once you find out somebody really wants you, and really chased after you, it makes it a really tough decision, Once I'd seen their ambitions and plans, the worst bit was having to tell Morecambe. There are good people down there.
"I believe we have left the club in a much better place than when we took over the football club, with a real chance of survival. But it was certainly with a heavy heart to do it, but obviously to take up a very exciting opportunity."
The Shrimps are now looking for a new manager. Barry Roche, goalkeeper coach, is taking charge of the team for tonight's League One game with Rotherham. You can hear live commentary on Shrimps Live on Beyond Radio from 7.30pm.
