Drunk motorist travels 60 miles down M6 after nearly hitting central reservation at Lancaster

A motorist who was three times over the drink drive limit was eventually stopped by police after nearly hitting a barrier on the M6 at Lancaster.

The vehicle was reported to have nearly hit central reservation at Lancaster, and as it continued its journey, patrols from Lancashire Road Police had to develop a plan to safely stop it.

Working with colleagues from Cheshire Constabulary, the vehicle was eventually bought to a halt after using a ‘boxing in’ technique, at the Thelwall Viaduct, near Lymm, between junctions 21 and 20.

The driver was arrested for drink driving, after giving a breath sample measuring 107 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath at the roadside.

The legal limit is 35.
