Delight as roofing stolen from Lancaster animal shelter is returned

The stolen roof sheets were returned to Animal Care on Wednesday

Roofing for new kennels stolen from a Lancaster animal shelter has been recovered and returned.

Animal Care on Blea Tarn Road in Scotforth was broken into by four men in a white curtain side truck during the evening and overnight of Saturday and Sunday July 1 and 2.

They removed and took all the new roofing sheets for the charity's new kennel building which Animal Care said was a "massive financial loss" for the animal rehoming centre.

But police tracked down the stolen sheets and on Wednesday, they were returned to Animal Care.

"We would like to thank Lancashire Police for all their help in bringing back our roofing that was stolen on Saturday night." said an Animal Care spokesperson.

"Today it has been returned to our site and we are all so happy to have it back. We also want to thank the public who have shared our post and got the information out there.

"We have been amazed by the support and we can now continue with our new kennel building.

"Thank you from all the animals!"

Police are appealing for information about the theft.

If you can help please call police on 101 quoting log Log LC-20230703-0344 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.

Animal Care has been helping animals since 1978. The registered charity rehomes around 800 animals a year and is entirely self-funded.
