Delight as Morecambe men achieve Mount Everest goal

Bru Wood, Ben Yates, Kris Bishop, Dave Simpson and Jason O'Mara reach the Everest Base Camp

A group of men from Morecambe have achieved their goal of climbing 5,364 metres to the base camp of the world's highest mountain.

Bru Wood, Ben Yates, Kris Bishop and Jason 'Jasper' O'Mara, joined by their friend Dave Simpson from Bristol, announced on Monday that they had reached the Mount Everest base camp in Nepal.

They set off on March 12 on their epic journey to raise money for local charities.

Bru is the landlord of The Palatine in Morecambe, and the pub's Facebook page announced the group's success on Monday.

"THE MORECAMBE BOYS HAVE DONE IT.

"Everest base camp complete âś….

"Well done to our Bru, Kris, Ben, Dave and Jasper.

"Tomorrow they have the option of going that bit further to just short of 6000 metres to a local mountain called Kala Patthar.

"Of course they are going for it!

"Well done we are so proud đź‘Ź."

Everest itself has a height of 8,849m.

The Palatine page also posted on Day 3 of the trek that the weather en route to the base camp had been "the hottest it's been there for years".

Bru, Ben and Kris have set up crowdfunding pages.
