The latest figures for the Lancaster district show an 8.2 per cent week-on-week rise in positive Covid-19 cases and a 23.2 per cent drop in coronavirus hospital admissions.
The government data, updated yesterday for week commencing March 18, shows that 1,362 people in our district recorded a positive test result that week.
A total of 13,803 Covid tests were registered that week in the district, a rise of 3.9 per cent on the previous seven days.
A total of 119 people had to go into hospital with coronavirus, a week-on-week fall of 23.2 per cent. There were 75 people with the virus in Morecambe Bay hospitals on March 22 2022.
Covid vaccination figures showed that 114,339 people had been given a first dose by the end of March 23 in our district, 107,769 people had been given a second dose and 87,679 people had been given a booster or third dose.
Between March 18 and 24, there were three deaths within 28 days of a positive coronavirus test. This was the same number as the week before.
The Office of National Statistics figures have shown there has been an increase UK-wide of positive Covid cases of almost one million, week-on-week.
England's chief medical officer Prof Sir Chris Whitty said earlier this week that while the virus was causing pressure on the NHS, the high rates of transmission were fortunately not translating into lots of intensive care cases and deaths.
