Carnforth residents unhappy over noisy out of hours building works

Carnforth residents have expressed their frustration over noisy building works taking place over the weekend.

There were a number of complaints about work that was taking place on Sunday, by Rowland Homes, on the Riverside Place development on Scotland Road, on Sunday morning, that contravened the company’s planning permission for the site.

The loud ‘piling’ work was being undertaken outside of permitted hours, sparking numerous complaints about the noise to the town council.

Carnforth Town Council said that swift action was taken by the company when they were alerted to the work going on, but many took to social media to disagree.

One resident wrote: ‘’Swift action definitely wasn’t taken. I’ve emailed and logged a complaint previously with Rowland Homes about working outside of ‘normal hours’ at weekends, I’ve never had a response,.

‘’The noise from piling was extreme this weekend. It would be interesting to understand if they are obliged to notify affected residents of planned weekend work or whether that’s just good practice and being a considerate House Builder?

‘’They’re regularly starting work before 8am on Saturdays.

Another resident added: ‘’Rowland homes were made aware of the noise way before the afternoon. Swift action was not taken!

A spokesperson for Rowland Homes said: ‘'We were made aware on Sunday afternoon that one of our contractors was completing works on-site.

‘’As soon as we were aware of the works, we visited site and stopped all activity. The contractor was not authorised to work on Sunday and necessary measures have been taken to ensure this does not happen again, including a reminder to all contractors of the permitted working hours.

‘’The piling works which are currently ongoing are on programme to be completed by the end of this week.

‘’We can only apologise for the unauthorised works and any disruption this has caused to local residents.'’

Permission to build 213 homes on the greenbelt site was granted in June 2021.
