A £15m redevelopment of Heysham Business Park has been given the green light.

The plans were approved by Lancaster City Council’s Planning Regulatory Committee this week.

The plans will see four new employment units and a new gatehouse, to significantly improve the appearance of the site entrance and attract further investment in the park, which is in Middleton Road.

Across the four buildings, 41 new car parking spaces will be created, including three accessible and three electric vehicle bays, and eight cycle and four motorcycle spaces.

The plans were approved despite objections from Middleton Parish Council, who objected on grounds of increased traffic, and lack of pedestrian, cycle and bus accessibility, and concerns from The Lancashire Wildlife Trust.

Applicant, AMA FIC Ltd, said the proposals were ‘relatively small-scale’, but would provide much needed investment with fit-for-purpose employment units and improve the overall environmental quality of the area and the entrance to the wider site.

They added that the principle of the replacement of existing business units and gatehouse and an additional unit complied with Local Plan policy.
