Lancaster employees attempt epic cycle ride for charity

Two intrepid employees of a Lancaster based business are getting ready to pull on their lycra to raise money for charity.

Jonathan Smith and Ben Ashworth from The Networking People (‘TNP’) will attempt to cycle a mammoth 150 miles in just 12 hours.

Jonathan and Ben will start next Friday, May 24, at around 6am on the Wirral and will head through customer locations in Warrington, Trafford, Manchester, Blackburn and Blackpool before finally ending their marathon challenge at TNP’s Lancaster Headquarters on Caton Road.

Colleagues will join them for sections of the route along the way.

All the money raised by Team TNP will be split between two incredible causes - Alzheimer’s Research UK and the Children’s Burns Foundation. Alzheimer’s UK is a charity dedicated to finding a cure for dementia and has been chosen in memory of Ben’s grandfather Alan Ashworth. The Children’s Burns Foundation is an organisation empowering young burn survivors, of which Jonathan is a trustee.

Jonathan, who is TNP’s Operations Manager, said: “I love being out on my bike but even by my standards this is a huge challenge! The route from Manchester to Blackburn, in particular, is very hilly and will push us to our limits.

“However, the fact that we are raising money for two such worthy charities should spur us on to the end. Alzheimer’s Research UK is doing amazing work to revolutionise the way dementia is treated, diagnosed and prevented and the Children’s Burns Foundation is a cause which is incredibly close to my heart after the support they gave to my own family.”
