Lancaster on Ice to begin with spectacular opening extravaganza

This year’s Lancaster on Ice will formally get underway with a spectacular ‘opening extravaganza’ this evening.

The opening, tonight (Friday, November 25), will feature a host of talented local skaters, including British Champions and International Gold medallists, who will perform a special presentation on the ice.

This festive presentation will include group numbers by coach Nyki Blackburn, and spectacular solo performances. The event will also feature a performance by BIDCA, with a dazzling excerpt from their 2022 Christmas show, Peter Pan, choreographed by David Walsingham.

The winter wonderland attraction in Dalton Square will then be open until January 8th.

The story of Lancaster on Ice began in November 2018, when the historic Dalton Square hosted an ice rink for the very first time, with real ice skating around the Queen Victoria Memorial at the centre.

It’s operated by The Borough, who earlier this yeast submitted proposals to the city council which could see the attraction extended to include a carousel and a Santa's Grotto.

Winners of the Lancashire Tourism Awards ‘Large Event Award’ 2019 and nominated as one of the best ice-rinks in the UK & Europe by the Guardian Newspaper, in previous year the attraction has included Christmas Market Stalls, a Giant Tipi Bar, 800m real ice, Ice-Rink and a giant Ferris Wheel.
