INTERVIEW: Meet the team behind Guys and Dolls at the Lancaster Grand

Matt Armistead, Sophie Butler and Anna Webster from the Guys and Dolls team

One of the great musical comedies is set to bring the contrasting world of crooked gamblers and straight-laced missionaries to a Lancaster theatre.

Guys and Dolls is coming to the Lancaster Grand, brought to audiences by the Morecambe Amateur Dramatic and Operatic Society (MAODS) with performances running from Tuesday February 20 to Saturday February 24.

The musical is based on a story by Damon Runyon with music and lyrics by Frank Loesser, and the book by Jo Swerling and Abe Burrows and is presented by MAODS as an amateur production, by arrangement with Music Theatre International.

The story is set in New York City, as gambler Nathan Detroit (James Shields) tries to find the cash to set up the biggest craps game in town while the authorities breathe down his neck; meanwhile, his girlfriend, nightclub performer Adelaide (Ashleigh Hartin), laments that they've been engaged for 14 years. Nathan turns to fellow gambler, Sky Masterson (Samuel Wicks), for the dough, but Sky ends up chasing the straight-laced missionary, Sarah Brown (Anna Webster).

Ahead of the show, director and choreographer Sophie Butler, Matt Armistead (who plays Benny Southstreet) and Anna Webster visited the Beyond Radio studio for a chat.
