Police in South Lakes target disqualified drivers

Police in South Lakes have conducted targeted work around dealing with disqualified drivers who are ignoring their bans.

The Neighbourhood Police Team focused on motorists who continued to drive, despite being sanctioned by the Magistrates Court.

The action resulted in one driver being reported to Court for disqualified driving and having no insurance after he was caught in Kendal.

Two other vehicles were removed from their owners in Windermere and Kendal.

Follow up work also resulted in an unrelated person being stop searched and found in possession of controlled drugs.

A spokesperson said: ‘’Disqualified drivers are banned from driving for good reason, often because they have driven with drugs and/or alcohol in their system, they drive dangerously and have committed multiple driving offences. They put us all at risk.

‘’If you have concerns about someone driving who you know is disqualified please get in touch. You can contact us on 101, report online on our website or contact Crimestoppers anonymously. Crimestoppers will never ask your name and you can report on 0800 555 111.’’
