Morecambe, who were looking to get into the third round draw for the first time in their history, defended resolutely in the first half, keeping their opponents chances to a minimum, without creating much in the way of clear scoring chances themselves.

Among them, Azeem Abdulai’s shot took a wicked deflection and behind for a corner early on, while Adam Smith produced a fine save to tip Charlie Patino’s powerful header over the bar at full stretch.

A big chance fell to former Crystal Palace man Yannick Bolasie seven minutes before the break. After cutting inside, he unleashed a curling effort which whistled just over the bar.

Just two minutes into the second half, the home side found themselves ahead.

Sam Parker’s deep cross found Patino who managed to get enough on the ball to find the net from close range at the back post.

Moments later Patino’s header went just wide of the target.

At the other end, Tom Bloxham pounced on a loose ball but his shot bobbled well wide.

At the other end, Krystian Pedersen came close to doubling the home side’s advantage with five minutes to play, but a first-time strike cleared the bar.

The Swans sealed their place in round four two minutes later, as a defensive header fell straight to the former Blackpool man Jerry Yates, who found the bottom corner from the edge of the Morecambe box.
