Jensen Weir gave Morecambe the perfect start after three minutes with a counter attack following a Plymouth corner. Dan Crowley sent Weir racing through on goal, and he ran from inside his own half to finish into the far corner, for his tenth goal of the season.

Weir blazed over from inside the box, before Joe Edwards sent a header wide for the visitors, as Morecambe went into the break with a slender advantage.

Early in the second half Cole Stockton forced a good save out of Pilgrims’ keeper Callum Burton from inside the Argyle area, before the equaliser came on 62 minutes.

Substitute Danny Mayor picked up the ball on the edge of the Morecambe box and curled a superb effort into the corner of Connor Ripley’s goal.

A Ryan Hardie flicked header towards goal at the near post tipped over the bar, while skipper Donald Love wasn’t far away from the target with a fierce effort on the half-volley, which went narrowly wide.

With four minutes of normal time to play, it was heartbreak for the Shrimps, as the visitors took the lead.

Morecambe didn’t clear their lines after a penalty appeal was waved away, and substitute Callum Wright’s pull back from the right found fellow sub Ben Waine in space, and he made no mistake.

The Pilgrims rounded off the scoring on the break late on, when substitute Jay Matete raced through on goal and beat Ripley with his side footed effort in the third minute of time added on.

The result leaves the Shrimps in 23rd in the League One table, five points from safety, and with inferior goal difference, with five games of the season to play, ahead of the trip to Portsmouth on Easter Monday.
