Ash Hunter’s first goal for the club, three minutes from time, was enough to earn a share of the spoils in League One.

Morecambe started the game brightly and forced United goalkeeper Simon Eastwood into a good save from Dan Crowley’s 20 yard drive on seven minutes.

Jensen Weir then tried to bend an effort into the corner, but his shot was wide of the target.

In a half of few clear cut chances, it was Oxford who took the lead on 42 minutes. Yanic Wildschut’s cross from the left hand side of the box was tapped in at the back post by Marcus Browne.

Farrend Rawson was then on hand to clear Cameron Brannagan’s free kick in first half stoppage time.

The second half also saw few clear chances created for either side, and with time running out, it looked as if the visitors would leave with the points, in new manager Liam Manning’s first game in charge.

That was before three of Derek Adams’ second half substitutes combined to create a late equaliser.

Josh Austerfield found Caleb Watts 25 yards out, he fed the ball to Hunter, who cut back onto his right foot to beat Eastwood with a low drive from just inside the area.

The point means Morecambe remain in the League One relegation zone, still two points from safety with eight games of the season to play.
