Charlie Brown’s first league goal for the club was enough to secure a well deserved point for Morecambe against the high flying Stags.

The Shrimps gave full debuts to three players – goalkeeper Archie Mair, midfielder Joe Adams, and winger Gwion Edwards, following their arrival and the departure earlier this week of three loan players.

Morecambe had the better of the opening exchanges and saw efforts from Jordan Slew and Adams narrowly off target.

The Shrimps could have opened the scoring in the 34th minute. A breathtaking counter attacking move saw Adam Major slip in Slew, who finished well but had just strayed offside, before Slew tested Christy Pym from distance.

Moments later, Morecambe lost possession on the edge of the Mansfield box, and Davis Keillor-Dunn initiated a breakaway move which resulted in his strike from distance cannoning off the crossbar, with Archie Mair getting fingertips to the effort.

The visitors took the lead on the hour mark.

Morecambe couldn’t get a breakaway going, with the Stags stealing possession and moving quickly to the edge of the area, where Ollie Clarke slipped in Baily Cargill, and the defender lashed the ball home at the back post.

Morecambe continued to be a threat on the counter and were rewarded with an equaliser 12 minutes from time.

A lovely ball over the top from Adam Mayor found Yann Songo’o, and his delivery across the face of goal was met perfectly by substitute Charlie Brown, who slid home form close range.
