Report, highlights and reaction: Ipswich Town 4-0 Morecambe

Morecambe’s three game winning run in League One came to an end at promotion chasing Ipswich last night.

Two goals each from Freddie Ladapo and Conor Chaplin gave the hosts all-three-points at Portman Road, on a night to forget for Derek Adams’ men.

The Tractor Boys opened the scoring in the first minute. Leif Davis swung in ac corner which fell at the feet of Ladapo who slotted home from close range.

Caleb Watts was presented with an opening at the far post, though his shot was blocked as the forward tried to get his side back on terms.

Connor Ripley saved low down to his right to deny from Nathan Broadhead's powerful strike before Lee Evans struck the post from 20 yards out.

Town doubled their advantage on 16 minutes. Broadhead played Ladapo through, with the striker finishing nicely off the far post from 12 yards.

Seven minutes before the break, Wes Burns found space down the right, and pulled the ball back to an unmarked Chaplin, who stroked home from inside the area to make it three, before adding his second and his sides fourth in almost identical fashion on the stroke of half time.

After the break, manager Derek Adams handed January arrivals Michael Mellon, Dynel Simeu and Dan Crowley their Shrimps debuts and all played their part as they kept Ipswich at bay in a second-half stalemate.

Morecambe remain in the League One relegation zone by a point.
