Morecambe prepare for Papa John’s ‘Pools test

Morecambe welcome Hartlepool to the Mazuma this evening (Tuesday) in the Papa John’s Trophy.

The Shrimps could take a step closer to qualification for the next phase of the competition against their League Two opponents, and go into the fixture looking for back to back wins for the first time this season.

Morecambe already have two points in their group, following a penalty shoot-out victory over Everton U21 last month, after the match finished 3-3 after 90 minutes.

There’s full commentary of the game on Shrimps Live on our FM and DAB+ services from 6:55pm.

Manager, Derek Adams, says those players wanting and needing game time will be given an opportunity.

He said: “We will change the team about on Tuesday night.

“It’s only right we do that because we’ve got a lot of fixtures to play in a short space of time, we’ve got players who want game time and need game time, we’ll do that on Tuesday night.

“We want to try and progress through the section, but coming off Saturday’s result against Forest Green, we’ll look at changing the squad up.

“What it does give is a home game to play at the home stadium and gives themselves 90 minutes.

“It’s an opportunity for us to get the three points, to try and progress.

“Hartlepool won their first game, so they’re top of the section.

“Both sides will be going for it because we understand if both teams can win the game, there’s obviously the possibility they’re going to get through to the next round.”
