Lancaster City Ladies are officially Lancashire FA Women’s County League Division 1 North/West champions.

It comes after Kendal Town Women forfeited what would have been the title decider, after being unable to field a team for the game on two separate occasions.

Whitehaven, who now finish second, had finished their league season, winning 37 points from a possible 42.

Lancaster, before Kendal forfeited the game, were on 36 but Whitehaven’s superior goal difference would have needed a win to get the title.

Following the confirmation of a Dolly Ladies' walkover, they end the season on 39 points, winning 13 and losing just one of their 14 games.

They have had some fantastic results, such as a 14-2 win over Blackpool Town Ladies – in their first game of the season – and 13-1 victories over Cadley FC Ladies and Sir Tom Finney FC Development Women.

Captain Kayleigh Young, who originally contacted Lancaster City to ask about the possibility of reforming the ladies’ team last year, has scored an unbelievable 45 goals in all competitions this season. Jody Campbell and Sarah Haslam have both scored over 20 times each.

It is an incredible achievement in their first season as a reformed ladies team, and they may still pick up more silverware this season under manager Scott King.

They will compete in the final of the LFA Women’s County League Challenge Cup against Horwich St Mary’s at 12pm on Sunday, June 4 at Thornton Cleveleys FC’s ground.

Next season, the Dolly Ladies will play in the LFA Women’s County League Championship.

Lancaster City Ladies, among others, posted on their social media and said: “As first seasons go, this is one to remember. We’ve come so far as a football club in such a short space of time. All our hard work has paid off massively.

“We have had so much support from players, fans, staff, volunteers and football lovers. You all have our respect.”

Kayleigh Young posted: “I am absolutely over the moon! Girls, you have been absolutely amazing, I am so proud of you all. Up the Dollies.”

Jody Campbell said: “Proud of every single person involved. What an achievement. Champs. North/West division is blue.”
