Lancaster and Morecambe Athletics Club runners enjoy nationwide success

Miriam Maher, Susan Hodgson and Maureen Roberts running the Green Drive Five Mile Run this weekend

Runners from Lancaster and Morecambe Athletics Club (LMAC) have enjoyed success in races across the country.

Last Sunday saw the Green Drive Five Race take place at Lytham, which includes the Lancashire Road Championship.

Seven of LMAC’s members took part and this is how they got on:

Christine Perry won the FV65 Lancashire Championship in 46 minutes and 42 seconds.

Meanwhile in the MV75 Championship, LMAC also had a winner in George Parrington who finished with a time of 43.43.

The other five athletes who took part on the day all competed in the Green Drive Five Mile Race.

David Walker achieved a personal best for a five-mile race with a time of 32.01.

Fellow runners from LMAC were Miriam Maher (41.05), Susan Hodgson (47.38), Steve Perry (47.38) and Maureen Roberts (56.13).

Six of Lancaster and Morecambe Athletics Club’s competed in the Northern Athletics Cross Country Relays in Sheffield last Saturday.

The club had some impressive performances on a day that tested them against some of the strongest teams in the north of England.

It is a so-called testing competition, but there were still big achievements for the club, including the under-17s girls team finished in 13th place and Elizabeth Wareing was the 11th fastest in her round. Meanwhile, the under-11 boys and under-15 boys teams finishing 18th and 21st respectively.

The club also had 20 people participating in either one of the Lancaster or Morecambe park runs on October 22.

The week before that, Louise Goddard ran the York Marathon on October 16 in 3 hours and 52 minutes.

The Lakeland Trail Dirty Double was held on October 15-16, and six LMAC members ran the Helvellyn Trail 10k on October 15 as part of the event – Joanne Perry, Andy Firkins, Anna Reyes-Richings, Faith Firkins, Stephen Perry and Robert Clayton.

The day after, Kay Schiller and Beyond Radio’s very own Paul Fisher ran the Ullswater 10k (pictured below).
