A hockey player from Kirkby Lonsdale is celebrating a gold medal triumph with the England team at the Commonwealth Games.

Fiona Crackles was part of the England team who beat Australia 2-1 in Sunday's final in Birmingham.

Fiona and the team made history as this was the first time England has ever won a Commonwealth Games hockey gold.

The tough tackling defender, who attended Queen Elizabeth School in Kirkby Lonsdale, grew up on her parents' farm near the town.

She started playing hockey aged just seven when she joined Kirkby Lonsdale Hockey Club.

The Highwayman pub in Kirkby Lonsdale showed the game live with special hockey-themed cocktails, and Fiona's supporters celebrated the result like this!

The team beat Australia thanks to goals from Holly Hunt and Tess Howard.

They had earlier defeated New Zealand in a dramatic shoot-out to reach the final.

Fiona, 22, was also part of the Great Britain squad that won a bronze medal in the 2020 Olympics, held last year in Tokyo, Japan.
