Dave Chisnall to begin World Darts Championship quest

Dave Chisnall

Morecambe-based darts star Dave Chisnall is set to begin his quest to win a first PDC World Darts Championship.

'Chizzy's tournament gets under way on Wednesday afternoon (December 21) when he faces either Andrew Gilding or Robert Owen in the second round of the world's biggest darts tournament.

The event is being held at Alexandra Palace in London until January 3.

The festive feast of darts will see 96 players from across the world competing for £2.5million in prize money.

Peter Wright is the reigning champion, while Gerwyn Price and Michael van Gerwen will also be in the hunt to lift the Sid Waddell Trophy.

Chizzy is currently ranked 12th in the world on the Professional Darts Corporation Order of Merit and is regarded as a 33/1 shot with Paddy Power bookmakers to win the title.

He reached the semi-finals of the tournament in 2021 and last year had to withdraw during the event due to a positive Covid-19 test.

The 42-year-old's form this year has been encouraging, as he reached the televised Masters Final in January, and won the Belgian Darts Open in May defeating Gilding in the final.

The Cazoo PDC World Darts Championship is being televised on Sky Sports Darts.
