Bare Cricket Club to host North Lancashire women's softball cricket finals

The Bare Cricket Club team

Bare Cricket Club will be hosting its first Women’s North of Lancashire Softball Cricket Finals this coming Sunday (September 4).

The club, which is running the event alongside Westgate Cricket Club, hosted a women and girls’ softball festival last July and it proved to be a big success, and now they want to make their latest event even more successful.

Lauren Burgess from Bare Cricket Club told Beyond Radio that last year’s festival “helped us grow our women and girls' section” and she hopes that “this event will continue to get our name out there and promote female sport”.

The cricket finals will consist of 14 teams from the local area, including two of Garstang and Carnforth’s teams. At least 140 players will be playing on the day and entry to the event is free.

As well as the cricket, there will be a bar, barbecue and raffle draws on the day.

Families will get the chance to have a go at playing cricket too, so there’s plenty of things for all ages to get involved in.

Raffle draw prizes include two one-day Lancashire Cricket 2023 tickets, two Manchester United match tickets and four tickets to watch the rugby union game, Harlequins v Northampton on October 2.

The money raised at the event will help towards the development of Bare’s women’s and girls’ team, including buying new kit for them. The club wants to improve facilities and the clubhouse for all of their teams.

Lauren said “It is a huge honour to be hosting.

"I can’t thank the local businesses who have supported us enough: TP Financial Solutions, Cheyette Fitness, Big Bear’s BBQ Pizza & Grill, 3-1-5, Scott and Wilkinson, PremierLine and Volker Stevin.”

The event begins at 11am this coming Sunday at Cross Hill Park, Lancaster, LA1 2TT.

Finally, if anybody wants to join the Bare CC ladies’ team, they train on Thursdays between 6.30pm and 7.30pm at their ground. People can join without having to commit to regularly training, they can just turn up and learn to play the game.
