Action-packed month for Lancaster and Morecambe runners

Lancaster and Morecambe Athletics Club runners having fun at the Keswick Lakeland Trails

September was another action-packed month for our local athletics club and here are their results.

Four Lancaster & Morecambe Athletics Club runners competed in the Garstang Half Marathon on September 3:

Gary Atkinson 1.34.52

Steve Perry 2.00.00

David Wilkinson 2.08.20

Carole Wilkinson: 2.09.45

John Brassington and David Wilkinson took part in Lancaster Race Series’ Jailbreak 10K event on September 10, finishing with 37.56 and 51.42 respectively.

John’s time saw him finish sixth overall in the standings.

There were many LMAC members in Keswick on September 10 for the Lakeland Trails, which features 5K, 10K and 18K races.

In the Sport Trail 5K, under 16 Eve Briffett finished in 28.31 while David Rosen completed the run in a time of 1.07.21.

There was yet more running action in Keswick last month in the town’s half marathon on September 24. Gary Atkinson represented LMAC with a time of 1.34.50.

In 3-1-5 Health Club’s National Fitness Day 5K on September 23, Steve Worsley finished in first with a time of 19 minutes and 51 seconds.

Meanwhile, Nicola Barnes, Gurb Dhillon and Elaine Simmill completed the 10K race in 59.18, 59.31 and 1.01.21 respectively.

Five LMAC runners took part in the Great North Run, the annual half marathon held in the North East – this year’s edition was four-time Olympic gold medalist Sir Mo Farah’s final ever race before his retirement.

The physically demanding Tower to Castle Ultra on September 30, which is a 30 mile race starting at Blackpool Tower and ending at Lancaster Castle, was completed by Allan Sumner and Ully Kritzler in times of 5.14.54 and 6.21.38 respectively.

In the Power of 5K run on September 22 in Morecambe, there were seven LMAC participants, all of whom finished within just over seven minutes of each other:

Keswick wasn’t the only place where there was a Lakeland Trails event in September.

In its 10K event in Cartmel, Miriam and David Rosen finished with times of 1.18.45 and 1.43.08, while Adam Elkin completed the 18K in 1.28.04.
