There has been travel misery for motorists due to emergency roadworks on the main road through Carnforth.

At the end of last week, four way temporary traffic lights have appeared on the A6 Lancaster Road, near Tesco, causing significant delays, especially at peak times, with reports of standing traffic past Crag Bank and as far as Truckhaven.

A spokesperson for Carnforth Town Council said they had contacted Lancashire County Council about the works, which are urgent utility repairs, and due to last until around the middle of next week.

‘’Carnforth Town Council is aware of the current traffic disruption along Lancaster Road.’’ They said in a statement.

‘’We have been in direct contact with Lancashire County Council at the highest level to highlight the issues to them and raise concerns that our local community is yet again feeling the impact.

‘’Whilst the current works are urgent utility repairs that were not part of a planned programme, we have asked that any planned or programmed works in October be delayed or rescheduled.

‘’Carnforth Town Council will continue to monitor the situation closely and keep the local community informed.’’

The County Council, who are responsible for highways, say the scheme, at the junction of Lancaster Road and Alexandra Road is a ‘utility repair and maintenance works' to 'excavate in the footway to clear a blockage', planned to be completed by October 10.

Also on Lancaster Road utility works to 'excavate in footway to repair electrical supply to a street lamp' is scheduled to be completed by October 11.
