Team Reece charity football match returns to Morecambe FC in memory of brave schoolboy

Reece Holt

A charity football match will return to the home of Morecambe Football Club to raise funds in memory of a brave schoolboy.

The Reece Holt Cup will take place at the Mazuma Mobile Stadium on Saturday May 18.

The cup is named after 13-year-old Reece Holt from Overton, who died in 2019 after battling a rare brain tumour.

Reece founded the Team Reece charity alongside his mum Rachel, who continues the fundraising in his name.

Team Reece has raised hundreds of thousands of pounds since it began, making a huge difference to the lives of children who have cancer and their families.

The Team Reece Cup charity football match first took place in 2019.

This year's match kicks off at 3pm and will see an over 30s side captained by Dave Holt take on an under 30s side captained by Jake Baron in a battle of experience against youth, to see who will take home the Reece Holt Trophy.

Former Shrimps player Craig Stanley and ex-Bolton Wanderers footballer Sonny Graham will be playing.

There will be raffles, prizes and a crossbar challenge.

Admission is free for the match but donations to Team Reece at the game will be greatly appreciated and welcome.

A presentation evening will also be held at the Golden Ball at Snatchems from 5.30pm until 2am with DJs Dave Holt, Matt Thiss and Summer J, and music from Ryan Wallace and Emma Clayton. Tickets cost £10.

There will also be a big screen showing Tyson Fury’s undisputed world heavyweight boxing championship fight against Oleksandr Usyk.

For more information on the match and the presentation evening, visit the Team Reece Children's Brain Tumour and Cancer Charity Facebook page.
