Police issue safety advice following spate of ‘sneak in’ Lancaster burglaries

Police have issued safety advice following a spate of ‘sneak in’ burglaries in two areas of Lancaster.

The offences happened in the Freehold and Moorlands areas of the city in the early hours on Tuesday and Wednesday (November 28 and 29).

The same method of entry – offenders entering via insecure doors – was used each time, and items from inside the home.

Police now say they want to remind residents to make sure their property is secure at all times.

A spokesperson for Lancaster Area Police said: ‘’There are some things you can do to keep your home safe:

‘’Keep all windows closed and doors locked at night and when you’re not in your home.

‘’Keep any keys away from the front door to prevent key-hooking methods through your letter box.

‘’Try not the post on social media that you’re away or on holiday – don’t advertise an empty home!

‘’If you have a keyless car, keep your keys as far away from your car as possible – preferably in a faraday bag to stop thieves using a relay device.’’

If anyone has any information that may assist the investigations into these offences, email TargetTeamLancaster@lancashire.police.uk or call 101.
