Morecambe’s Eden community conversations due to resume

A new programme of community conversations for people to find out more about Eden Project Morecambe has been announced.

The first one is taking place on Tuesday June 4 at 1.30pm.

As with previous community conversations, there will be a chance for attendees to hear directly from the Eden team and the other partners involved in the project, along with the opportunity to ask questions.

The conversations will take place on the first Tuesday of every month and be a mixture of online via Microsoft Teams and in-person events, with dates in the diary right through to January 2025.

Councillor Catherine Potter, cabinet member with responsibility for Visitor Economy, Community Wealth Building and Culture, said: “We know that people are eager for news and to find out more about the exciting plans for Eden Project Morecambe.

“I’m delighted to see the return of these conversations as they are invaluable in ensuring our communities are kept up to date with what’s happening with the project and providing them with the opportunity to ask questions.”

Si Bellamy, the Eden Project’s Chief Transformation Officer, added: “We’re very pleased to be welcoming people back to Community Conversations as we embark on an exciting chapter for Eden Project Morecambe.

‘’These regular sessions will build on the success of our recent Rhythm Makers event and provide an ongoing open forum for discussion around the project.”

You can sign up to attend the community conversations at www.lancaster.gov.uk/eden-conversations , where you’ll also find links to recordings of previous conversations.

They will take place on the following dates and times:

Tuesday June 4 at 1.30pm (online)

Tuesday July 2 at 1.30pm (online)

Tuesday August 6 at 1.30pm (online)

Tuesday September 3 at 6pm (in-person, venue TBC)

Tuesday October 1 at 1.30pm (online)

Tuesday November 5 at 1.30pm (online)

Tuesday December 3 at 1.30pm (online)

Tuesday January 7 at 6pm (in-person, venue TBC)

Eden Project Morecambe will be situated on the central promenade of Morecambe, on the former site of the Bubbles leisure complex with the Grade II* listed Winter Gardens and Midland Hotel its near neighbours.

The project has been designed in a way which is sensitive and complementary to these important buildings and sightlines across the Bay. Eden Project Morecambe will cost £100m, £50m of which has been secured from the UK Government’s Levelling Up Fund.

The remaining £50m will be sourced from private and philanthropic funds. Construction is due to begin this year (2024) and the project is due to open for small-scale community-focussed test events in 2026 with a full opening in Spring 2027.

The project is being developed by the Eden Project’s Experience Development team in partnership with Lancaster City Council, Lancashire County Council and Lancaster University.
