Morecambe Missile leads field for Isle of Man TT

Isle of Man TT legend John McGuinness will lead the starting order for the 2022 event, which gets underway this weekend.

It’s the first event for three years after the pandemic caused the 2020 and 2021 events to be called off.

The Morecambe Missile, who recently celebrated his 50th birthday, is the number one seed for both the RST Superbike and Milwaukee Senior Races and the Monster Energy Supersport Races.

John will ride for Honda, looking to add to his 23 Superbike race wins, the last of which came in 2015 in the Senior race.

John suffered a few tough years after that, including suffering serious leg injuries, broken vertebrae and broken ribs in a crash at an event in 2017, causing him to miss the TT in both 2017 and 2018.

In 2019, he suffered serious problems while riding for the Norton racing team, before the 2020 and 2021 events were cancelled.

Speaking to Bennetts BikeSocial, John said: ‘’Am I looking forward to it? Yes! Am I a bit nervous? Yes!

‘’My 100th start is coming up, and I always get a bit twitchy, but we’re all chomping at the bit.

‘’A lot of the conversation is ‘oh, you’ll be alright, you have the most experience’, but you watch, when that flag drops, there’ll be no messing about and nowhere to hide.

‘’For me, it’s a case of getting back there, riding and enjoying it, as I have nothing left to prove.

‘’There isn’t a day that goes by without me thinking about the TT, or racing in general. The great bit is when I’m on the bike and I shut the visor. I’m ready to go.’’

We’d like to wish John the very best of luck!
