Join in with plans to improve your streets in Morecambe

Sandylands and West End residents in Morecambe will be able to have their say once again on a new initiative to make it easier and safer to get from A to B.

Lancashire County Council has secured funding through the Department for Transport's Active Travel Fund (ATF) to help local people to use more sustainable forms of transport and enjoy their neighbourhood, thanks to lower traffic levels and slower vehicle speeds. It will also make it easier for people to choose to walk, cycle or wheel for local trips rather than using the car.

The next phase of public engagement on this scheme starts on June 4 and is open until July 15. Residents and businesses can get involved at a co-design workshop, and will also be able to complete an online survey to help shape the design of the scheme to create safer, greener and healthier streets.

County Councillor Scott Smith, lead member for highways and active travel, said: "All road users deserve to be able to travel easily and safely, and we’re delighted to have secured funding from Government to create safer, greener, healthier streets in Sandylands and the West End of Morecambe.

"Our previous engagement sessions were really successful, with local people giving us their views about the road safety issues that matter to them. This helped us identify the problems that residents and businesses face in getting from A to B in the West End and Sandylands.

"The next stage of the project is to find out how local people would like to see those issues addressed, so we are hosting a co-design workshop on Tuesday 4 June.  There will also be an online survey to allow as many people as possible to put their choices forward.

"It won’t be possible to put every idea brought to us into action, but it’s really important to us that local residents and businesses are involved in this process from start to finish. I would urge everyone to get involved and have their say."

A co-design workshop will be held for local people to drop-in and develop designs for their streets at The Venue @ Sandylands Balmoral Rd, Morecambe, LA3 1HH on Tuesday June 4 between 4pm-6.30pm. There is no need to book, just turn up any time between these times.
