INTERVIEW: TV comedy legend Syd Little visits Morecambe for grand opening of hearing test centre

Syd Little officially opens the new The Private Hearing Aid Company centre in Bare

TV comedy legend Syd Little has visited Morecambe for the grand opening of a new hearing test centre in the village of Bare.

The Little and Large star officially opened the new home of The Private Hearing Aid Company on Bare Lane on Tuesday.

The firm has moved to new bigger premises at 1-3 Bare Lane from a smaller office next door.

During his visit to Morecambe, Syd sat down to talk about his showbiz career which has spanned more than 60 years.

His double act with Eddie Large was hugely popular with TV viewers and a mainstay of Saturday night television during the 70s and 80s.

Real name Cyril Mead, Syd spoke about his partnership with Eddie, who died in 2020.

He also told a story about the time he met Eric Morecambe, shared memories of performing in the town, and revealed his thoughts on the top double act of today, Ant and Dec!

Syd, 81, and his wife run a pub in Fleetwood called The Steamer.

The Private Hearing Aid Company provides free hearing tests, hearing aid sales and advice and has been based in Bare for around 25 years.

Robert Hood, owner, said it was "wonderful" and "very kind" for Syd to come along.

"He's a patient of ours, we've fitted him with hearing aids and he's really pleased with them, and that's wonderful," he said.

"We look after all our patients, we take a pride in it."
