Burst pipe leaves Carnforth and Bolton-le-Sands residents without water and forces school to close

A burst pipe has left Bolton-le-Sands and Carnforth residents without water for hours and forced a village school to close for the day.

Bolton-le-Sands Primary School was forced to shut due to the water issues on Monday.

Householders and businesses reported problems on Monday morning saying they had either no supply or low pressure.

United Utilities said on Monday evening they were "making progress" with restoring full supplies.

The water company said the issue was caused by a burst main on Main Road in Bolton-le-Sands.

"Repairs to our network can be harder to fix than we first thought, and take longer than we hoped to complete," said a spokesperson for United Utilities.

"We’re working as quickly as we can to get your taps flowing again. Thanks for your understanding and sorry for the inconvenience."

A post on the Bolton-le-Sands Primary School Facebook page said: "We apologise for any inconvenience caused today due to our school closure.

"United Utilities are busy trying to resolve the mains water burst in the village and some residents have water now returning. We will notify parents tomorrow morning to confirm that we have water and will be open!"

The Royal pub-restaurant in Bolton-le-Sands was also affected.

"We’re sadly having to close today as we have no running water and don’t foresee it being back on anytime soon," said a post on The Royal's Facebook page.

"We’ve contacted anyone that’s booked with us and have blocked the booking diary for the day.

"Safe to say, the only people however that aren’t disappointed are the staff that have been heel kicking and whooping their way round the car park all morning."

A post from Carnforth Town Council on Monday said: "There is a serious water outage affecting Crag Bank and Carnforth and some outlying areas.

"In response to this incident Carnforth Town Council has taken the decision to trigger the Town Emergency Plan.

"At the moment our response will be to inform, via our social media platform and our web page, all residents of progress with the incident. As updates become available we will make those available."
