Fans of Lancaster band The Lovely Eggs have rallied behind them after damage to their van while on a UK tour to promote their new album.

The duo, married couple Dave Blackwell and Holly Ross, asked for help from their supporters after a prang in a hotel car park - and the Eggs faithful quickly raised enough money to cover their van hire excess.

The band were in Brighton for a gig at the Chalk venue performing songs from their new album 'Eggsistentalism'.

Their new record recently cracked the UK Top 10 in physical album sales reaching a peak position of number eight, and number four in the independent albums chart.

In a call to their fans, the Eggs posted on Facebook earlier this week: "Eggheads! We’ve pranged the van in the Travelodge Brighton car park!

"We paid £750 excess on van hire which we now won’t get back! We can’t afford to lose this much money but we thought if the Eggheads Massive got together and all chipped in a quid, we might be able to cover it together?

"If you want you can send £1 via PayPal (tick the “friends and family” box to avoid fees) to thelovelyeggs@hotmail.co.uk ? Can you help us out and get this paid off?"

Hours later, they posted:

"STOP DONATING! WE’VE DONE IT!

"Honestly can not thank you enough! It’s just amazing that you lot all clubbed together and have made this happen. THAT IS THE POWER OF COMMUNITY! Absolutely humbled by you helping us out with this. We can now crack on and enjoy the tour. THANK YOU!"

The band formed in 2006 and have released seven albums to date, receiving rave reviews and national radio recognition.
