A tourist attraction described as 'one of the loveliest views in England' is set to reopen after three years.
Ruskin's View in Kirkby Lonsdale, a major draw for visitors to the town, has been shut since 2021 after subsidence left the path to the view unstable.
But it was announced this week that visitors will have access to the view once more, from Friday August 23.
Kirkby Lonsdale Town Council posted on social media:
"After months of hard work from our technical team we have some brilliant news!
"Kirkby Lonsdale Town Council are excited to announce the re-opening of Ruskin's View on Friday 23 August 2024.
"Residents and visitors will again have access along The Brow from Radical Steps to the first viewpoint seating area to delight in ‘one of the loveliest views in England, therefore in the world’ painter and poet John Ruskin.
"The footpath along The Brow will remain closed because of weak and unstable ground to the north end. Further monitoring and ground Investigation is ongoing in an effort to re-open the entire footpath as soon as practicably possible.
"We thank you for your patience and understanding and hope you will continue to support our efforts."
The Save Ruskin's View campaign, by the Friends of Ruskin's View, has so far raised £150,000, helped by donations from members of the community and visitors, towards the total cost of repairs of around £1m.
The attraction is named after poet John Ruskin, who called it "one of the loveliest views in England, therefore in the world".
