Three beautiful gardens in Cartmel village will be open to the public later this month as part of the National Garden Scheme charity initiative.
The Cartmel Gardens Open Day takes place on Sunday, July 21, with three gardens to enjoy, all within easy reach of one another.
Greencroft, at the junction of Barn Garth and Priest Lane, is a garden of parkland with various species of trees and herbaceous borders. The lawns are divided by the River Eea with a backdrop to the stunning 12th century Priory Church. At the rear of the house is the Coach House courtyard showcasing urns and evergreen plants.
Laburnum Cottage, on Barn Garth, is a small, compact walled garden with views of the 12th century Priory Church. The garden is in 3 parts: a small front to the roadside, a rear garden planted with a cottage style approach and a side garden with raised cutting flower beds and vegetables. There are shrubs, clematis, perennials and a variety of pots with a collection of hostas.
The Rowans, on Haggs Lane, is a beautiful garden full of shrubs and herbaceous plants around 4 lawns with a large selection of pots, many containing hostas. Flow Beck bisects the rear garden. There are various seating areas and a summerhouse taking advantage of the sun and views to the fells.
The event is part of the National Garden Scheme, and there will be free parking at Cartmel Village Primary School on Aynsome Road.
Admission is £7.50 for adults, children are free, which gets entry into all the gardens on the day.
