Appeal for witnesses after passenger's death on A685

Officers investigating a fatal road traffic collision near Grayrigg are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

The collision occurred August 22 at around 5.20pm on the A685 and involved only one vehicle – a blue Vauxhall Astra.

The 85-year-old driver and her 89-year-old passenger were taken to hospital.

The passenger - Ronald Simpkins, of Yarm, Stockton-on-Tees - subsequently died on August 24.

The driver has since been released from hospital.

Officers are aware of several witnesses at the scene, some of whom offered help and support to the driver and passenger. They are keen to hear from those people to help with their investigation.
