Report, highlights and reaction: Morecambe 0-3 Grimsby Town

Morecambe slipped back into the League Two relegation zone after a 3-0 defeat to the Mariners at a wet and very windy Mazuma Mobile Stadium.

The first chance of the game fell the way of visitors in the seventh minute, as Jason Dadi- Svanþórsson effort from close range was repelled by Harry Burgoyne.

With conditions proving tricky for both sides, it was Grimsby who took the lead midway through the half.

Morecambe lost possession from their own corner, and a quick counter attack saw captain Kieran Green bend the ball into the path of Justin Obikwu, who sprung the offside trap and nmade no mistake with a well-placed strike into the corner.

Dave Artell’s men doubled their advantage six minutes before half time.

The Shrimps lost possession in the centre circle, and Obikwu was once again slipped in, who dinked the ball over the keeper after being played through.

Into the second half, and Harry Burgoyne was called into action and made a great save to deny the Mariners a third after Jayden Luker struck at goal, while at the other end Callum Jones came close to halving the arrears with a  free-kick which Jordan Wright saved to his right.

Jones had another effort from distance that flew narrowly wide of target, before Burgoyne made another magnificent save, reacting quickly to block Danny Rose’s close range effort. 

Grimsby sealed the points in stoppage time, as Morecambe’s defence was cut open on the left of the penalty area, and a pull back saw Danny Rose tap in from close range.
