Morecambe climb out of relegation zone after Tranmere draw

Morecambe moved out of the League Two relegation after a 2-2 draw at Tranmere Rovers on Tuesday night.

The Shrimps – who were looking to make it four straight away wins - took the lead twice in the game, and were in front until the closing stages, before the hosts found an equaliser.

It was Ben Tollitt who put the Shrimps ahead with a 12th minute goal after a mistake at the back. 

A long ball forward from goalkeeper Harry Burgoyne was flicked on by Marcus Dackers, and as a defender misjudged a header back to his goalkeeper, Tollitt nipped in to slot home for his 8^th goal of the season.

Harry Burgoyne was then called into action as Sam Finley's strike on goal took an awkward deflection and he had to be at full stretch to make the save.

Chances remained at a premium for either side for the rest of the first half but Derek Adams’ men looked to be in control as they led at the interval.

Tranmere Rovers started the second half in quick fashion and equalised less than two minutes after the restart. Jordan Turnbull rose highest to meet a corner and draw level for the hosts.

Morecambe looked to respond instantly and that they did.

Just two minutes later, Adam Lewis looked to float a dangerous ball into the mix, and the cross from the right evaded everybody and bounced into the net.

Tranmere pressed for an equaliser as the second half wore on and got back on level terms with 15 minutes to play.

Morris delivered a ball from the centre circle into the penalty area, where Connor Jennings got it under his control and finished low past the onrushing Burgoyne to earn a share of the spoils for Nigel Adkins’ men.

Morecambe move out of the League Two relegation zone on goal difference, ahead of the visit of Grimsby Town to the Mazuma on Saturday.
