Midfielder Callum Cooke becomes Morecambe’s second January signing

Attacking midfielder Callum Cooke has become Morecambe’s second January signing on a deal until the end of the season.

The 27-year-old links up with manager Derek Adams for the second time after previously working together at Bradford City.

Cooke, who came through the ranks at Middlesbrough before signing professional terms in 2014, went on to gain valuable playing experience on loan with Crewe Alexandra and Blackpool respectively.

Eventually leaving the Riverside in 2018, he joined Peterborough United before spending a loan spell at Valley Parade which became permanent in 2020.

Two years later, he departed West Yorkshire for a move closer to home, signing for Hartlepool United where he remained for two years, before leaving in summer 2024.

A former England youth international, Cooke helped guide the Three Lions’ U17s to Euro 2014 success, scoring in the penalty shootout to eventually secure victory over the Netherlands.

After putting pen to paper at the Mazuma Mobile Stadium, he said: “I know the Gaffer from my time at Bradford, you know what you’re getting from him, he’s honest, hard-working and that’s how he likes his teams.

“He also gives you a license to go and express yourself, especially in the final third and being an attacking midfielder, having that is vital.

“I want to show my worth and hopefully help the team with my goals and assists, so fingers crossed I can hit the ground running.”

Callum will wear the number 20 shirt during his time at the club.
