Lancaster City scored twice in the closing stages to earn a draw against Hyde United in the Northern Premier League at Giant Axe.
Aaron Bennett had two chances early chances as Lancaster looked to start on the front foot, but both sailed past the target.
Then moments later, Hyde United had an early chance of their own after a good delivery aiming for forward, Ben Kershaw, but a towering header from Harrison Beeden eased pressure off the hosts but Hyde United looked to get a foothold in the game.
The ten-minute mark was hit and for that, a chance fell for the visitors from Matthew Fearnley, but it turned out to be one of many mis-hit opportunities for Hyde. Ten minutes later, there were claims for a penalty after a goalmouth scramble which the referee waved away which was shortly followed up by an effort blazed over the bar by Charlie Bailey. Both sides had opportunities, but none could find their way in the net.
This was until just before the half hour mark, Ben Kershaw slotted the ball into the Dollies net, only to be ruled out for offside.
The dominance continued as Ewan Barge was brought down in the box and a penalty was awarded which was converted by Hyde United’s captain Jack Redshaw for the lead.
Despite falling behind, the Lancashire outfit responded well with chances from both a Lewis Coulton header and a Charlie Bailey strike before the break. But neither effort resulted in a goal and the first half came to a close as Hyde United maintained their lead and Lancaster City had it all to do in the second half.
The second half begun, as did the chances for the home side when Dom Lawson, on his 100th appearance for the club, came close to an equalizer but a brilliant save from the Tigers goalkeeper, Callum Huddleston, denied Lawson on his special day.
Mansell followed this up with a chance of his own, but the defending from visitors and Joe Toole denies the Dollies an equalizer after the promising beginning to the second half.
More chances fell the way of the boys in blue, but Lancaster just couldn’t convert as Dom Lawson produced a smart pass across the face of goal, but no one can get on the end of the cross. The misfortune continued as City are punished for the missed chances as Hyde United made it 2-0 after a mistake at the back just before the hour mark.
An accidental clash between Dylan Thompson and James McClenaghan left an empty net for Lewis Thompson to tap into, which he did with ease.
Debutant, Joshua Abbott was one of two changes for the home side, and he immediately showed his worth by driving at the Hyde United defence and forced a corner twenty minutes from full time.
But a smart set-piece from captain, Sam Bailey, found Aaron Bennett free in the box and drove a strike past the keeper to get a goal back as he made it 2-1 with plenty of time to find another goal and Lancaster were in full control.
Lancaster then got a deserved equalizer after the ball fell to Charlie Bailey, who arrowed a volley past a helpless Callum Huddleston into the top right corner.
City’s next game is on their travels as they head to the Leasing.com Stadium for the fixture against league leaders Macclesfield on Saturday November 2).
