Woman suffers serious facial injuries in alleged racially-aggravated assault in Lancaster

Police are investigating an alleged racially-aggravated assault in Lancaster where a woman suffered serious facial injuries.

It was reported that at shortly after 2am yesterday morning (June 15), the victims were approached by two people in Penny Street who asked for a cigarette. When the victims said they didn’t have any, one of the offenders is alleged to have become racially abusive. 

The female victim and her male friend were then assaulted. The female victim, who is in her early 20s, suffered serious facial injuries.

Police say the incident is being taken extremely seriously and have a dedicated team of officers assigned to this case.

DS Rachel Crossley, of Lancaster CID, said: “We will not tolerate this kind of appalling behaviour in our communities and I want to reassure the public that we are taking this matter extremely seriously.’’

A 16-year-old boy and 14-year-old boy have been arrested on suspicion of assault.
