Facilities at a Heysham holiday park remained closed after a fire broke out in the main building over the weekend.

Firefighters were called to Ocean Edge Holiday Park on Moneyclose Lane at 7.04am on Sunday morning.

They extinguished the fire and no casualties were reported.

On Monday, Ocean Edge released a statement via their Facebook page:

"Following yesterday’s fire in the main building, all power has now been restored to all caravans, however all facilities will remain closed.

"We do not know at this time how long the facilities will remain closed and will update further when we know more.

"Thank you all for your understanding."

Beyond Radio contacted Parkdean Resorts, who run Ocean Edge. A spokesperson said they were unable to add further comment at this time.

Some people posting on the Ocean Edge Facebook page sent well-wishes to the holiday park team following the fire.

One said: "Well done to all staff yesterday staying calm and helping out, stay safe all of you."

Another said: "Personally a big fan and old employee of Ocean and just so happy that everyone is okay. The GM of this park is the best and I'm sure very upset on what has happened, I know he will be doing all he can to be getting things back to normal!"

Other people said the fire had affected their holidays at Ocean Edge.

One wrote: "I just managed to get through on chat and they are saying they will be in touch as soon as they know more. I completely understand this is a nightmare for all and they don't know what's going to happen and I do have sympathy but if they tell us at short notice then there may not be availability elsewhere.

"I don't want my three year old disappointed, she has been looking forward to it for so long."

Another wrote: "I've just come home from there was meant to be staying 'til Saturday and got told all facilities closed for at least this week. Been told they will be in touch soon about a refund and compensation for having to come home, we only arrived Saturday night."

A spokesperson for Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service said: "Eight fire engines from Lancaster, Morecambe, Bolton-le-Sands, Carnforth, Hornby, and Silverdale, together with an aerial ladder platform and a water tower appliance, attended a commercial building fire on Moneyclose Lane, Heysham.

"Firefighters used two main jets and four breathing apparatus to extinguish the fire."
