Singer Frank Turner to hold Lancaster benefit gig for Citizens Advice after moving podcast interview

Joanna Young, chief executive officer of Citizens Advice North Lancashire, and her brother the singer-songwriter Frank Turner

Singer-songwriter Frank Turner is heading to Lancaster to hold a benefit gig in aid of a local charity after a moving podcast interview with his sister.

The popular folk-punk singer recently appeared on 'When Life Gives You Lemons' hosted by his big sister Joanna Young, chief executive of Citizens Advice North Lancashire.

Afterwards, Frank posted on his Facebook page: "Friends! There’s nothing quite like sibling blackmail.

"My big sister Jo works for Citizens Advice North Lancashire and has twisted my arm once again into doing a benefit show for this hugely important charity.

"I’ll be playing a special solo show at Lancaster Town Hall on March 1."

Support will come from local musicians Joe McCorriston and Amy Rae.

Tickets go on sale on Thursday at 9am. All of the proceeds go to the charity.

Frank has 10 studio albums to his credit, including a number one with 'FTHC' and five other UK Top 3 albums, and a reputation for constantly touring.

He’s written songs and spoken widely about mental health including his own challenges. He has also lost two close friends to suicide.

But as an ambassador for CALM, the Campaign Against Living Miserably, he was keen to discuss the issue to highlight the support that does exist.

Joanna spoke to Frank, who was in the US, for the latest edition of the local Citizens' Advice podcast.

WARNING: This edition includes references to suicide and self-harm.

Joanna is also a former Lancaster city councillor, and former chair of the board of trustees at Morecambe Bay Foodbank.
