Police probe "alleged irregularities" in Morecambe & Lunesdale election campaign

Lizzi Collinge, MP for Morecambe & Lunesdale

Police are investigating a complaint about "alleged irregularities" in the campaign in Morecambe & Lunesdale leading up to the general election.

According to national newspapers The Telegraph, The Mail and The Daily Express, the complaint relates to a visit to the constituency on a 'battlebus' by Angela Rayner, now Deputy Prime Minister, during the run-up to the July 4 election, and a subsequent election expenses claim submitted by Lizzi Collinge, MP for Morecambe & Lunesdale.

A Labour Party spokesperson said this week: "All necessary declarations have been made in line with the rules, including with regards to the 'Change' battlebus."

A Lancashire Police spokesperson said: "We received a complaint in December about alleged irregularities in the campaign in the Morecambe and Lunesdale constituency leading up to the parliamentary elections in July last year.

"We are in the process of assessing the information provided to confirm if any criminal offences have taken place."

Ms Collinge was elected as MP during the general election of July 4 2024, in which Labour won a landslide victory.
