Pledge to repair ‘unavoidable’ damage to grass areas of Williamson Park following Highest Point

Lancaster City Council say they’ll restore damaged grass areas of Williamson Park as quickly as possible following the conclusion of the Highest Point festival.

The infrastructure of the park is currently being de-rigged after the four day event, which is being overseen by festival organisers and the council.

But, adverse weather has meant that in this process, large grass areas have suffered damage caused by vehicles.

In a statement, they said: ‘’Following another successful Highest Point festival, we are currently overseeing the de-rigging of the infrastructure in the park.

‘’Unfortunately, due to the recent heavy downpours, vehicles have caused damage to large areas of grass for the first time in the history of the festival.

‘’Unfortunately, this is unavoidable.

‘’We are working closely with the Highest Point team to plan for full reinstatement of these areas, as agreed prior to every festival, with no extra cost to Lancaster City Council.

‘’As we begin to reopen the park to members of the public, you will see which areas have been affected, but rest assured we have a plan in place to return the park to the highest possible standard as quickly as possible.

‘’Thank you for your understanding.’’

Parts of Williamson Park are beginning to reopen following the festival, with the cafe, gift shop, Mini Zoo, Butterfly House and upper play area are now back open, with pedestrian access only from the Quernmore Road driveway, with other areas to follow.
