Plans withdrawn for house in Bare to become care home for children

Plans for a house in Bare to become a care home for children have been withdrawn.

Care company Therapeutic Care Ltd had applied for planning permission to convert a house on Lodges Grove into a residential care home for up to two children.

On Wednesday it was announced that they had withdrawn the application.

They had applied for the house to provide care for up to two young people (no older than 17 years of age) 24 hours a day by up to two care staff and a manager during the day, and two staff overnight.

A statement submitted to Lancaster City Council with the original application said: "The Chief Executive of Therapeutic Care Ltd, Caroline Williams, has more than 15 years experience in running childrens’ care homes, some 50 plus homes, and these have been rated as 'good' or 'outstanding' by OFSTED over this period.

"The property is in the process of being purchased with the intention that it be used as a care home for two young persons.

"The children would indeed be vulnerable young people. They will have been taken into care by the Social Services Authority. There would be children with particular problems, as there could be in any family dwellinghouse.

"There will be a maximum of two children in the house and both will be selected based on referrals to be mutually supporting and therefore be more akin to family members rather than two separate individuals. The children would be vulnerable and need a safe, caring and stable home environment to be able to thrive."

We have contacted Therapeutic Care Ltd for comment.

Residents packed into a meeting at nearby Bare Village Club on Tuesday evening to speak out about the plans.

Objections included concerns about parking and that the proposed care home was in an inappropriate location, as the house is near to another property used as a care home for adults with severe learning difficulties.

In May, Therapeutic Care Ltd was given permission by the city council for a similar care home at a house on Longlands Crescent in Heysham.
