PHOTOS: Festival of Culture in Lancaster celebrates diversity and creativity

A celebration of different cultures in Lancaster has been described as a "brilliant spectacle".

The Festival of Culture, organised by Communities Together, took place in Lancaster Town Hall on Sunday.

The festival celebrates our local community’s diversity and unity, featuring around 50 stalls representing different cultures and 18 performances showcasing the rich cultural heritage of Lancaster.

Councillor Phillip Black, leader of Lancaster City Council, said: "This amazing event packed out the space with a glorious celebration of the diversity and creativity in our district.

"There was music and dance, fragrance and food, crafts, history, worship - joyfully bringing life and colour to our stuffy civic spaces.

"A brilliant spectacle - bravo to all involving into realising this fantastic event."

Local samba drumming group Samba Espirito, who performed at the event, posted on Facebook that they were "thrilled" to perform at the event.

"We loved being part of this inclusive and celebratory event in our home city for the second year.

"Our rhythms are inspired by cultures and musical movements from across the world. Today we were inspired by the dances, songs and words our local community shared.

"Thank you for allowing us to share our music, joy and positivity with you all today."

Councillor Sam Riches posted on Facebook that there was "an amazing range of communities and cultures represented".

"We were just treated to a taste of all the national anthems from the Arabic countries performed by children from the Naba Arabic School which is led by my councillor colleague Suhir Abuhajar.

"It is quite something to stand on the stage let alone sing alone and unaccompanied and these young people did brilliantly!"
