Morecambe MP, David Morris, has paid tribute to the Queen in a special sitting of the House of Commons.
Following the announcement of the death of Her late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, both Houses of Parliament met at noon on Friday 9 September for tributes to The Queen. At the start of the sittings in both chambers, there was a minute's silence after prayers.
Both Houses continued to pay tribute on Saturday 10 September. In each House at the start of business, a small number of senior members took the oath to His Majesty The King.
Watch his speech below:
Mr Morris said: ‘’I met the Queen back in 2013. She asked me about our community and my constituency, and how we were all getting on. She was very warm and down to earth.
‘’Her Majesty was no stranger. She visited Morecambe not long after her coronation, in 1955, signing a Royal portrait. In August 1989 she visited Heysham Port on her way to her beloved Balmoral.
‘’The whole community welcomed her in July 1999, when she unveiled the Eric Morecambe statue. She told the President of the Eric Morecambe Fan Club that both she and the Duke of Edinburgh were big fans of Morecambe and Wise.
‘’We also have Royal patronage in our area. The shifting tides make the crossing across Morecambe Bay a very perilous task. In 1985, the Queen’s Guide, Cedric Robinson, guided Prince Phillip across in a horse-drawn carriage.
‘’I remember Her Majesty’s reign with fondness, and over the last few days with very deep sadness. Just a few weeks ago, I welcomed King Charles to the Winter Gardens, to see what my community has done with a marvellous old building, and to also visit the Eden North site.
‘’May Her Majesty rest in peace. My thoughts are with all of the Royal family. God save the King.’’
