Morecambe FC launch special edition shirt to support local foodbank

Morecambe FC has unveiled a special edition playing shirt that will raise funds for a local foodbank.

Players will wear the new shirt during the home fixture against Grimsby Town on Saturday (December 7), with £5 from each sale going directly to support the work of Morecambe Bay Foodbank.

The special edition shirt features special hex jacquard fabric, part of the popular Terrace ath-lock range, finished with classic TPU crest. The shirt features striking blues of the bay, represented with the vibrant wave pattern throughout.

A spokesperson for Morecambe FC said: ‘’The aim of the release is to bring together the power of fans, club and technical partner to raise money for Morecambe Foodbank.

‘’For many, Christmas can be riddled with worry, stress and making ends meet. Terrace hopes using the power of football and the special shirt, it can make a difference, side by side with fans to those around them across the festive period.

Speaking of the initiative, Briony Scott, manager of Morecambe Foodbank, said: “We are very grateful to be featured on the back of the special edition shirt and knowing £5 will be donated from the sale of every shirt is fantastic. That could buy food or uniform items - all of it going to help people in the local area.

“Morecambe Bay Foodbank works across the Morecambe and Lancaster District providing emergency food to people in crisis. Last year, we provided food to over 6,000 adults and children.

‘’We also run the Uniform Project which helps local families with school uniforms and pe kits, ensuring young people can go to school in the right uniform and look exactly the same as anyone else.

“We really are proud of our relationship with Morecambe FC Community Foundation, they have supported the foodbank for years and provide us with the opportunity to collect at matches throughout the football season. They make us feel like a valued partner and are always happy to promote us.”

Morecambe FC Community Foundation CEO Stuart Glover added: “We are proud to be partners with the foodbank because of the amazing work they do, supporting hundreds of people across the whole district every week.

“Donations have slowed recently due to the pressures on household budgets, but they continue to reach the people in most need.”

Before the game on Saturday, Morecambe Bay Food Bank will be at the Mazuma Mobile Stadium, collecting donations that will support families leading up to Christmas.

They are especially looking for Cup o' soups, Mugshots, tins of Ravioli / Mac and Cheese and selection boxes for their Christmas parcels.

Cash is also accepted on the day.
