Minute's silence held after deaths of former Lancaster city councillors

Morecambe Town Hall

A minute's silence has been held in tribute to two former councillors and a long-serving council officer.

Respects were paid to Ken Brown, Bob Clark and Jenny Lawton at the meeting of full Lancaster City Council at Morecambe Town Hall on Wednesday.

Mr Brown, who died on New Year's Eve, was elected to the city council as ward councillor for Heysham in February 2004.

He served until May 2011 and was also a well-respected county councillor for Heysham.

Councillors also paid their respects to former councillor Bob Clark, who died on January 14 aged 76.

Mr Clark represented Bulk ward in Lancaster in the 1990s and was also a county councillor.

Councillor Hamish Mills, deputy mayor, also announced that long-serving council officer Jenny Lawton had died in December after a short illness, aged 53.

She worked for the Lancaster City Council revenue and benefits service for 34 years.

"Jenny was a very popular member of staff and will be missed by the many who knew her," said Councillor Mills.
